The weather has been a bit depressing around here lately. We can't venture outside without getting cold and wind-swept but that isn't the only thing getting this pregnant and moody woman down. My usual high quality scanner wouldn't let me scan this morning because it is out of ink. So after quite some time of me growing more and more exasperated while yelling "I don't need to print, I only want to scan!", I gave in and resigned myself to the fact that I can't post my work the way I would like to this week. I used a lesser scanner and tried to adjust the tonal variations as best I could but the colours in this illustration aren't 100% true to the painting. I have been trying to work on the mood and lighting in my illustrations lately so I would have liked some feedback on the actual colours.
Despite your frustrations I quite like this piece and its gray tones. The somber colors lend themselves well to the cold-wind-swept feeling
ReplyDeleteGreat watercolour work, a medium that is o so tricky for me, you handle it well.Certainly is soggy around this city!
ReplyDeleteScanner troubles aside, you did a great job with this illustration as well. Take my opinion for what it is - pretty uninformed and based on little experience. But here goes anyway. Most of the colors I see seem cool, which combined with the subject lend themselves to a somber mood. The lighting on the clouds looks good, but maybe the one strip of brighter light on the bottom third (just under the clouds) could be more nuanced? Especially on the left side of the illustration. But again, my opinion is sooo uninformed it's surprising I have so much of it. *apologetic*
ReplyDeleteLooks good! It all works.... feels as though it would stink to have to walk home in that!
ReplyDeleteI hear you on the scanner/printer issues, despite that this is wonderful you can almost feel the chill in the air!
ReplyDeletelooks like autumn weather!!
ReplyDeleteI love your illustration and I think as someone else mentioned it is the perfect tones to set the mood....I always feel that my watercolors are never as bright on my scanner as in real life anyway. Love your style.

ReplyDeleteI think it looks really good.
ReplyDeleteThe weather these days is depressing here too, at least it's nice to know bad weather could inspire works like this one :)
I Like how you have made the top of the hill seem like the whole world in this painting. The many directional forces you have portrayed give this work the strength to say swept! Well done.
ReplyDeletelove your technique! i draw too and i have it on my page, would you please tell me if you like or not? :)
